Meet The Stockist: Yorkshire Sculpture Park, internationally renowned gallery

Hello, 

I'm delighted to take you to discover another Hadley Stockist, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Set in the heart of West Yorkshire, Yorkshire Sculpture Park is an internationally renowned open air gallery which has two shops on site.

They've been stocking Hadley since 2022, and it's been a joy to see our cards sitting amongst such an inspiring creative space.

I recently caught up with Elsie, the buyer, to hear a little about the shop and the thoughtful collections they've put together.

Q. Why do you love Hadley? 

A. They're always fun, imaginative, playful and colourful.

Q. What are your best selling Hadley cards? 

A. Our best-selling card is the It's My Birthday Glasses Card followed by the Lapwing Chick Card

Q. Describe your customer base, do you have regular members as well as new visitors, can they access just the shop? 

A. We see a large variety of visitors at the park, including our regular Friends members,
some who come every day! We also have lots of young visitors who come for the
first time on a school or university visit, or families who are coming for a day out to
enjoy the exhibitions and large 500-acre parkland. We have two shops on site, The
Weston Shop can be accessed without having an admissions ticket, and then our
larger Visitor Centre Shop is located at our main entrance. We also have an online
shop for visitors who can’t make it in!

Q. Which are your busy days/quiet days or seasons - being an attraction/gallery?

A. As a visitor attraction, we are open 7 days a week and only close two days of the
year (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). Our busiest times are during the summer
months when families are visiting together and our quieter times are January,
February and March when the weather can be unpredictable, but the park looks
beautiful in the frost and snow!

Q. How do you display cards, what works well? 

A. For us, wall mounted shelving allows us to display as many cards as possible whilst
keeping floor space. We do also have freestanding card racks on casters which
means we can move displays round with ease, which is super helpful. At The
Weston Shop our merchandising spills outside of the shop into the entrance of the
building with cards and wrap, which works really well for us. Everybody always
needs a card for something!

Q. Do you have one piece of retail advice for other galleries and museum shops?

A. Stay true to who you are. It’s easy to get caught up in trends but these might not
work for you or your customer base. Look at your mission and work towards
achieving that without compromising what you’re about.

Finally I asked Elsie which Hadley card she will be sending next.....

A. I will be sending the I Love You Rose Stand Up Card to my partner to celebrate our
seven-year anniversary. It’s simple and elegant, hopefully he picks something just as
nice for me!
